BEFORE the grand event for the celebration of 400 years of Christianity in Palawan takes place August this 2023, a big event will happen first come March 10, and this is the 151st anniversary celebration of the first holy mass in the City of Puerto Princesa.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa teams up with Apostolic Vicariate of Palawan, Palawan Provincial Government and the City Government of Puerto Princesa, in preparing for this momentous event.

In a press conference last Feb 21, the multi composite team already reveal the different line up of events starting from March 1 to 10, these are processions in honor of St.Ezekiel Moreno, Exhibits, Cultural show, and the high mass celebration on March 10 to be officiated by former Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral parish priest, Bishop Pedro Arigo.

But the highlight of the celebration is the commemorative stage play, adapted from the “Ang Surugon” theatre play by Bernard Factor Cañaveral that was stage before by the then Holy Trinity University, this year’s version will be man by the different chorale group and dance troop from Palawan State University, HTU, Palawan Dance Ensemble and others, around 100 cast will be featured in this staging. The plot and story will focus on the arrival of St. Ezekiel Moreno in place where now called Eulalia Park besides the Cathedral.

Based on data by AVPP, 75% of Palawan population are Catholic or 988, 424 2020 individual out of 1.3 million population for the whole province of Palawan, while Puerto Princesa has 529,636 faithful Catholics, and this was based on 2020 data.
