Based from Jonathan Larson’s stage musical play , 9 Works Theatrical brings into light another rendition of Tick Tick Boom. After a hiatus, Philippine Theater is so back in the game with a GEM this brilliantly put together.

In the preview at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza, theater goers old and young alike were treated to this brilliant piece brought on stage by Director Robbie Guevara. In a rehearsal done several days prior the director mentioned that he wanted the POV of the play to not be all about Jonathan (character) but Moreso, the other characters in the play as well. It was indeed a great decision to come about as it clearly shown that magic when the preview was put together. Jon (portrayed by Jef Flores) was extremely in his best element as he opened the scene. The Set design was superbly put together.

Not to be outdone, Michael (portrayed by Reb Atadero) added the much-needed flare to the play. The only woman casted, Susan (portrayed by Tanya Manalang) was exceptionally astounding and gave the justice needed for the role. Her mellifluous voice paired with that stage presence was able to command the crowd. Her renditions of the songs resonated with the audience eliciting tears from an amazed crowd. That’s the beauty in a Theater production- Characters are brought to life.

Whether you are in your midlife crisis or dealing with Life’s complexities, this is one play you definitely would not want to miss. The theme struck a chord to everyone- the juxtaposition of emotions was evident with everyone in the audience which includes Prima Ballerina, Lisa Macuja- Elizalde, Mark Bautista, JM Rodriguez among others.  A standing ovation greeted the actors before curtain call and I wouldn’t be surprised because the cast really deserved it.

Alternate cast members include Khalil Ramos (Jon), Vien King (Michael) and Kayla Rivera (Susan)
