In commemoration of the 2023 Fire Prevention Month, SM City Puerto Princesa in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) joined the National Simultaneous Fire and Earthquake Simulation Drill on March 13, 2023.
The BFP said the undertaking in collaboration with its partner SM aims to raise public awareness and readiness in case of “possible fire emergency.’’
The earthquake and fire simulation were held at 8:00 a.m. on March 13.
The drill replicated a scenario of “a 7.8 magnitude with intensity 8 earthquake’’ that caused severe damages by the tremor with some structures like SM City Puerto Princesa and that resulted in a fire incident in the establishment.
The storyline included nine injured persons and some pretend casualties, which were setup to test the preparedness of the emergency response team of SM.
Aside from the simulation drill, an information and education campaign was organized by the BFP as part of their community relations week.
They had an exhibit of fire brigade equipment at SM City Puerto Princesa and a rappelling area for mallgoers to experience.
The BFP continuously extends their effort to inform and involve the public in fire prevention as well as in emergency response.
